Q1 How would a donation made to the portal be reflected in my credit card statement?

Your credit card statement would indicate "Govt. Online Payment" when a donation has been sucessfully made in the portal.

Q2 What is the Online Donation Portal?

The Online Donation Portal is a one-stop portal that allow members of the public to donate online to charities that subscribe to the portal. Donations can be made through credit cards or with encashment of Economic Restructuring Shares (ERS). All donations are tax-deductible.

The portal is administered by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

Q3 What is a charity?

Under the Income Tax act, the Commissioner of Charities registers all charities. A charity is an organisation / trust / foundation set up exclusively for charitable purposes. It carries out activities which can be classified into four main categories:

a. the relief of poverty
b. the advancement of education
c. the advancement of religion
d. other charitable purposes which help and benefit the community.

Q4 Who can subscribe to the Online Donation Portal to receive donations?

All Institutions of Public Character (IPCs)1 or their Sector Administrators (SAs) can subscribe to this portal to receive donations.

Q5 Can I make cash donations?

Presently, donations can be made via credit card or encashment of your Economic Restructuring Shares (ERS).

Q6 Can I donate to more than one charity/non-profit organisation?

Yes. At the end of each transaction, you can select the option to donate to another charity.

Q7 How do I select an charity/non-profit organisation to donate to?

You can start by selecting the category (eg. social services, education, health and medical etc.) before making a choice on the charity based on the list of charities under the selected category.

Q8 How can I know more about the charity/non-profit organisation before making my donation?

The portal contains information on the charity's mission, services and activities. Where it is available, you can also access to the website of the charity for additional information.

Q9 Can companies & corporations donate at the Online Donation Portal?

Presently companies & corporations can donate at this portal through corporate credit cards. For other philanthropic opportunities, you can consider the Corporate Community Involvement Programme (CCIP). Kindly visit the NCSS website at www.ncss.org.sg or call the hotline at: 1800-210 2600 for more information on the CCIP.

Q10 How do I know whether my donation has been transacted?

When you receive the "Thank You" acknowledgement message in the portal, it indicates that your donation request has been transacted sucessfully. Upon further processing by the bank/ CPF Board (if your donation is made via credit card or ERS respectively), your bank statement or the statement from CPF is proof that your donation has been processed successfully.

Q11 If I make a donation, will my donation be submitted under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme?

If you will like to enjoy automatic tax deduction, i.e., your donation is submitted to IRAS under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme, you can indicate your choice by clicking on the box provided during the transaction stage. You will be requested to provide basic information such as your name and NRIC number. The charity that you made the donation to will then forward your particulars to IRAS under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme.

Q12 What do I need to do if I want a tax-deductible receipt for record purposes?

As a tax-deductible receipt will not be issued automatically when you make a donation, you can indicate in the box provided during the transaction stage if you require a tax-deductible receipt for record.  You will be requested to provide your postal address for the tax-deductible receipt to be posted to you.

Q13 Will the donors’ particulars be revealed to anyone?

All subscribing charities are required to keep donors particulars confidential. You can also choose to donate anonymously (please indicate in the box provided during the transaction stage) if you do not require any tax-deductible for your donation.

Q14 What do I do when I encounter a system error message when donating online?

  • If you encounter the following error, you have probably clicked on ‘back’ twice, this has temporarily disrupted the processing. Just click on ‘continue’ button to proceed as per normal.


  • If you encounter the following error, it is because the cookies have not been enabled in your client browser. Before you try donating again, enable the cookies in your client browser to accept cookies first. For tips on how to do this, click on ‘Help’ on your browser’s menu bar or click here for more details.
